  3. The Mini Hound Tutorial
  4. -----------------------

  6. This file gives the user a guided tour of how to use Mini Hound for several
  7. different purposes.
  8.  
  9. To start run Mini Hound in the normal way and it will install itself on the
  10. iconbar. Next move the mouse pointer over the iconbar icon and press the
  11. SELECT (left) mouse button. This make a window pop up in the bottom left
  12. corner of the screen, just above the iconbar.
  13.  
  14. Suppose we want to find an alternative word for 'alternative'. 
  15.  
  16. In the writable icon in that window type the word 'alternative' and then
  17. press SELECT over the icon marked 'Search'. Mini Hound will then perform a
  18. search, which should take a few seconds if you are running it from a floppy
  19. disc, or less than a second from hard disc.

  21. Next another window will pop up containing the following :

  41. The left hand column of the list contains the exact word found in the
  42. search, the right hand column shows the first word contained in the section
  43. of the thesaurus which contains that word.
  44.  
  45. So in our case the search has produced two matches for 'alternative' plus
  46. some extra matches for words which are for 'alternate' and 'alternating'.
  47. These extra matches are just Mini Hound trying to be helpful.
  48.  
  49. Now the most likely alternative word is going to by under 'Substitution'.
  50. Move the mouse pointer so that it is over the word 'Substitution' in the
  51. list and press the SELECT mouse button.

  53. After a short pause another window appears which contains the full thesaurus
  54. entry :

  70. As you can see, a fair few to choose from. Moving the mouse pointer over any
  71. of the words in this window and pressing SELECT will pass that word to the
  72. caret, pressing ADJUST will perform a search on that word. Pressin MENU
  73. anywhere over the window brings up a save window allowing you to save the
  74. full entry as a text file.

  77. As another example, suppose a word is on the tip of your tongue the 'Wild
  78. Card' and 'Sounds Like' searches are very useful. For example if you know
  79. your word starts with 'pref' but cant remember much else, entering 'pref*'
  80. into the writable icon and selecting the 'Wild Card' icon produces the
  81. following list of words :

  91. Again pressing SELECT over any of these words passes it to the caret, ADJUST
  92. performs a search on that word, and MENU allows you to save the list.

  94. As aonther exapmle, type 'aperition' into the writable icon and SELECT the
  95. 'Sounds Like' icon. A list is the produced containing 'apparition',
  96. 'epuration' and 'operation'.
